Perhaps the most widely cultivated grape variety in Romania, it is grown on an area of over 12,000 hectares in Romania. Due to the high yields, this variety is also grown in other regions of Europe, such as Italy, France, Bulgaria, Moldova, Ukraine, etc. It is a grape variety that is very resistant to low temperatures but needs a lot of humidity. It ripens quite late in autumn, which is why the wines made from this grape variety are aromatic. The variety is used to produce high-quality dry wines, it serves as a raw material for sparkling wines or aged distillates, but also for table wines. The specific color of the wines obtained from this variety is white-green with hints of yellow. The strength of Feteasca Regala wines is moderate, between 10 and 13%. The acidity levels are relatively high, reaching up to 7.5 g/l, giving the wines a particular aroma, good balance and well-defined taste.
The wines made from Feteasca Reagala are recommended as appetizers or dishes based on fish, seafood or non-fermented sweet cheese.
